Stage Managers

Stage Managers are the communication link between EVERYONE in the show- directors, designers, actors, crew, and anyone else! During the show, the head stage manager calls cues for the rest of crew, and the assistant stage managers run everything backstage.
Stage managers:
  • facilitate auditions
  • sort student contracts
  • call cues
  • write blocking
  • write cues in book
  • collect money from actors for lost items
  • create rental scripts
  • run tech meetings
  • take tech attendance
  • check in with designers
  • call places
  • make check lists for things to complete for tech
  • before and after shows make sure clean up happens
  • make sure risers are moved into the correct places when they need to be moved
Assistant Stage Managers help with all of that AND:
  • make sure curtains are running well
  • clean tech areas
  • make sure no one has too many jobs during a show
  • make sure everyone knows their cues
  • make sure no one is in the way (including tech)
  • watch props
  • watch costume
  • make sure spikes are right
  • make sure stage left doors are closed
  • make sure actors are not in the line of sight

Tech Crew Design Jobs
(things you do BEFORE the show)

Each of these designers are responsible for going through their script to find their cues.

- Lighting designers use blocking notes and set design to build light cues and program them into the lightboard.
- Sound designers primarily use online research skills to find sound cues and build them into a computer program called QLab.
- Set Designers use math, drawing, and construction skills to design the set, and to determine the need to purchase or reuse appropriate lumber,

PROPS DESIGNS AND CREATION WILL BE DONE DURING TECHNICAL THEATRE CLASS THIS YEAR
- Props Designers use research, crafting, and treasure hunting skills to obtain appropriate props.

THERE IS NO AFTER SCHOOL COSTUME CREW THIS YEAR. Select students from the Costume Design class will run costume crew during tech rehearsals and performances.
- Costume Designers use research skills, sewing skills, and the script to create, find, and occasionally purchase appropriate costumes.
