ABOUT THE DRAMA PROGRAM
The after school drama program does three plays every year. All the plays are cast by audition. Auditions mean that actors come and try out for the play by showing their acting skills (and for the musical, their singing and dancing skills). We make auditions as fun and easy as we can- sometimes there is something short to memorize, sometimes you just have to show up and read a scene from the script. Students can also apply for a job on tech crew by interviewing with a design. The information for every show is here on the drama website.
The big play of the year is the MUSICAL! Anybody who auditions for the musical will get a part. For the other plays, only some actors get parts, but we try to give chances to as many actors as possible. Information about auditions for the plays and the musical will be posted online a few weeks before auditions.

FOR 6th Graders
Bigelow has lots of opportunities for new 6th grade students to be involved in Drama. All 6th grade students take drama class as part of their Fine Arts Rotation (like music, art and tech). The drama class is taught by Ms. Moriarty.
6th Graders are usually cast in supporting roles in plays. This means that your parts are smaller, but it doesn't mean you have less fun. The reason 6th graders usually have smaller roles is: 1. To give you practice being onstage a Bigelow and learn how things work without too much pressure. 2. To give 7th and 8th graders who have been in other plays at Bigelow a chance at the bigger roles. Which means if you stick with drama, there's a pretty good chance that in 7th or 8th grade it will be you in those bigger parts. Pretty much every 8th grader in a leading role started out as a 6th grader in the ensemble- you'll get there, too! |
FOR 7th and 8th Graders
7th graders are typically cast in supporting or ensemble roles to continue building performance skills. New this year! All 7th grade students take drama class as part of their Fine Arts Rotation (like music, art and tech). The drama class is taught by Ms. Moriarty.
The main roles are typically reserved for 8th graders who have a history of commitment to drama (including auditioning for plays at Bigelow, attending drama events and conducting themselves in a respectful and responsible manner in all drama productions). THIS IS NOT A GUARANTEE FOR ANY 8TH GRADER. |
