Spring play auditions usually happen the week after the musical- usually around the middle to end of March. Details on the actual auditions will be on the show page. Because they happen so soon after the previous show, we almost never ask for students to prepare anything for their audition. However, as usual, you do have to complete the online audition packet and print and bringing a signed audition form to your audition. We cannot and will not cast you without your signed form!
The spring play is a small cast, because we bring the show on the road to drama festival. We are' looking for our most mature, responsible actors and crew for this show. Most students cast in this show have just been in the musical, and so student behavior during the musical is a major factor when casting the spring play. Students who auditioned for the fall play but did not get in also get consideration.
As a result, it is unusual for a student who has never done drama before to get into the spring play. But don't let this stop you! If you are new to drama, this is a GREAT play for which to audition for the first time, because you don't need to prepare anything! And if you don' get in, don't be discouraged, come back! We'll remember you auditioned when casting the fall play, and you won't be new anymore!
In general, 6th graders are typically cast in ensemble roles where they can learn about being in a production; 7th graders are typically cast in supporting or ensemble roles to continue building performance skills; the main roles are typically reserved for 8th graders who have a history of commitment to drama (including auditioning for plays at Bigelow, attending drama events and conducting themselves in a respectful and responsible manner in all drama productions). THIS IS NOT A GUARANTEE FOR ANY 8TH GRADER.
